The Company maintains a ZERO TOLERANCE standard where spills or release to the environment are concerned. In this regard, the Company is continuously striving and unequivocally committed to improving environmental performance throughout its operations and seeks to conduct all fleet operations in an environmentally sustainable manner in order to protect and preserve the environment.
Key among the Company’s operating objectives is to conduct business in a manner that:
- Meets or exceeds the requirements of MARPOL 73/78, as amended; and
- Is compatible with the environmental and economic needs of the communities in which it operates and the clients that it serves.
By developing and implementing this Environmental Policy the Company undertakes to:
- Comply with all mandatory and applicable international and local laws, regulations, codes, rules, standards, and other requirements to which the Company subscribes; in instances where they are absent, the Company will apply acceptable standards based on sound industry practice and common sense.
- Prevent pollution by ensuring that all sea personnel follow the procedures for safe vessel operation and understand their responsibility to adhere to environmental performance standards.
- Provide appropriate and ongoing education and training to all employees to ensure their awareness of environmental responsibilities, best operating practices, and pollution prevention.
- Minimize waste (Garbage, Sewage) to the water and emissions (Cargo vapor, engine exhausts, CFCs) to the air.
- Control the Ballast Water discharge as per applicable national and international regulations.
- Control the noise and protect the water environment from toxic antifouling paints.
- Ensure that business opportunities, as presented, are appropriate for the nature, scale, and potential environmental impact of the Company’s activities and services.
- Implement strict and effective operational procedures to protect the environment from the accidental discharge of oily substances and dangerous goods.
- Monitor the environmental performance of the fleet and incorporate necessary updates to enhance overall environmental compliance and integrate relevant new legislation.
- Communicate this Environmental Policy to all employees, contractors, and suppliers to ensure their awareness and understanding of the Company’s environmental commitment.
- Prepare and implement appropriate emergency response plans to quickly and effectively combat pollution.
- Respond expeditiously and effectively to incidents resulting from Company operations and provide assistance to industry organizations and authorized governmental agencies.
- Work closely with government and industry groups towards the timely development of effective environmental laws and regulations based on sound science and in consideration of risks, costs and benefits, including the effects on energy and related product supplies
- Conduct and support research to: promote understanding of the impact of its business on the environment; improve environmental protection methods; elevate awareness on energy conservation; and enhance operations and improve products to make them more compatible with the environment.
- Communicate with the public on environmental matters and share Company experience with others to facilitate improvements in industry performance.
